BODY TYPES AND BODY FAT PERCENTAGESThere are 3 different body types:
- Mesomorph- naturally lean and muscular and do not have to put too much effort into their training or diet
- Endomorph-gain fat easily, carry stubborn fat, usually round body shapes, have difficulty losing body fat
- Ectomorph- naturally lean, very skinny, bony, have trouble gaining weight and muscle
It’s good to know what body type you fall under because when dieting and training you actually can determine how much you can get away with or how much harder you need to work. For example me, am Endomorph. My body loves to be fat, it loves cushion and always fights me to stay lean. Therefore I have to engage in more cardio, and limit certain foods in order to stay at a healthy body fat range for myself. But this may not be for you.
Here is a list of bodyfat percentages and what it means for you:WOMAN
- Too Low: less than 12% (unhealthy, unsustainable, and dangerous to ones health)
- Essential: 12-15% (minimum required bodyfat to live)
- Athletes: 16-20% (this % is for athletes only, it is healthy and allows the athlete to have sufficient amount of bodyfat)
- Fitness: 21-24% (allows one to be physically fit and engage in physical activity in order to be healthy)
- Acceptable: 25-31% (not ideal, the majority of people fall in this category, not so physically fit and/or productive)
- Obese: greater than 32% (unhealthy, risk of diabetes, and other health problems)
MEN
- Too Low: less than 2% (unhealthy, unsustainable, and dangerous to ones health)
- Essential: 2-5% (minimum required bodyfat to live)
- Athletes: 6-13% (this % is for athletes only, it is healthy and allows the athlete to have sufficient amount of bodyfat)
- Fitness:14-17% (allows one to be physically fit and engage is physcial activity in order to be healthy)
- Acceptable: 18-25% (not ideal, the majority of people fall in this category, not so physically fit and/or productive)
- Obese: greater than 25% (unhealthy, risk of diabetes, and other health problems)
